The Szechungsi Hot Springs area, founded in 1895 by Japanese occupiers, is named as one of the four major hot springs
areas in Taiwan, along with Yangmingshan, Beitou, and Guanziling. Located in the Checheng Township in Southern Ping-
tung County, Szechungsi Hot Springs is only a 20 minutes drive away from Kenting. The thermal hot springs, with natural
temperatures ranging from 40-50deg Celcius (95-122deg Farenheit), is geothermally-heated by heat generated from the
earth's interior. The high mineral contents of the underground hot springs and its natural heating process is known to have
excellent effects on muscular relief and improves blood circulation for the entire body, thus many users claim therapeudic
effects, such as strong senses of stress relief, bodily rejuvenation, and better sleep.
Bus rides are available daily from the Kaohsiung Train Station to Checheng Township (roughly 1 hr 30 minutes one-way
ride) for less than $290NTD as well as from Kenting (20-30 minutes).
